We will walk you through the process and be there with you every step of the way.

Step 1 Call or submit interest form

Step 2 Send Information packet with welcome letter

A letter will be sent to you with informational flyers and Mercer County Foster Handbook.

Step 3 Follow up 2-3 weeks after initial letter

MCJFS will follow up with you 2-3 weeks after you receive the information packet and welcome letter.

Step 4 Schedule home visit or office visit

A social worker will schedule home visit or office visit with interested family to answer questions and go over the licensing process.

Step 5 Schedule for preservice

Family will self-schedule preservice training through CAPS/LMS system. Training can be live virtual or in-person.

Step 6 Turn in application at the end of training

Family will complete the JFS 1691; Application for Child Placement. View Forms here.

Step 7 Complete homestudy interviews and family turns in verifications

Worker will meet with family 4-6 times in the home to complete interviews with all household members, safety assessment of the home and collect state required documentation.
